The Asian Art Society of New England was created in 1999 at lunch in a restaurant in Chinatown by some officers of the Friends of Asiatic Art at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
There had been many program cuts imposed by the MFA, and we felt we needed to start our own organization so that we could run all the programs we wanted to run for our group.
At first, all programming was run by Steve Gaskin, on a month-to-month basis. Over the years the programming process has been greatly enhanced through the efforts of Henry Harrison, our Program Chairman.
We have increased the number of events per year from eight to around thirteen, and our membership has grown to about 200 Asian art enthusiasts around the Northeast.
